Meet Our U9s Coach: Chris Grey

Welcome to the Under 9s section of the Kilsyth Junior Football Club! We are excited to introduce returning coach Chris Grey—a enthusiastic community mentor focused on fun, skill development, and building confidence in our young players.

Connection to the Cougars

Chris’s journey with Kilsyth began when his son started playing footy for the Cougars last season. Wanting to support his son’s team in any way possible, Chris jumped at the opportunity to take on a coaching role as soon as it became available.

Chris’s passion comes from a deep love for Australian Rules Football and a desire to teach young players skills that foster a lifelong enjoyment of the game.

Coaching Philosophy & Team Values

When asked to describe his coaching approach in three words, Chris sums it up as Developmental, Supportive, and Energetic.

Chris believes in celebrating every milestone along the way. The core values he actively promotes within his U9 squad include:

  • Respect: Showing respect to teammates, opponents, coaches, and umpires.

  • Teamwork: Learning to play together and support each other on the ground.

  • Courage: Trying new skills and stepping up to new challenges with confidence.

  • Integrity: Playing fair and showing good sportsmanship at all times.

Looking Ahead to the Season

Chris is eager to build on the foundation set last year. He is looking forward to watching returning players continue their footy development while welcoming new families to the club and helping them kick off their football journey.

Quick Profile & Fun Facts

  • AFL Team: Western Bulldogs.

  • Footy Heroes: Growing up, Chris admired Chris Judd and Lance “Buddy” Franklin; today, his favorite player is Marcus Bontempelli.

  • Favourite Footy Memory: Watching his son play his very first game of football.

  • Interesting Fact: While Chris admits to having a terrible memory for simple everyday tasks, he carries a vault of quirky trivia—like knowing that a Kiwi bird lays eggs nearly the size of an emu’s egg!

What Makes Kilsyth Special

For Chris, Kilsyth stands out because of its tight-knit community feel. It’s a club where everyone is made to feel important and valued, regardless of how big or small their role may be.

A Message from Coach Chris to Players & Families
