Meet Our U14s Coach: Rob

Welcome to the Under 14s section of the Kilsyth Junior Football Club! We are thrilled to introduce our U14s coach, Rob—a passionate community leader with strong roots at Kilsyth, a dedicated coaching approach, and big plans for the team this season.

Deep Roots at Kilsyth

Rob’s connection to Kilsyth Junior Football Club is a true family affair. Having previously watched his son play in the red and black, he now cheers on his nephew, who currently plays for the club.

Rob’s motivation to coach comes from a genuine love for Australian Rules Football and a desire to see local kids step away from electronics, get off the couch, and rediscover a passion for active sports.

Coaching Philosophy & Team Values

When asked to describe his coaching style in three words, Rob sums it up simply: Focused, Fun, and Developmental.

Rob thrives on seeing players of all skill levels achieve individual and team milestones—whether that’s taking a first mark, kicking a first goal, or steadily evolving into well-rounded footballers.

The core values he instills in the U14 squad include:

• Team Spirit & Mateship: Working together and backing each other up every round.

• Leadership: Developing confidence both on and off the field.

• Inclusiveness: Making sure every player feels welcomed, supported, and valued.

Looking Ahead to the Season

After narrowly missing out on finals last year, Rob and the team are hungrier than ever. The focus for this season is on building team confidence, teaching new skill sets, welcoming new players into the fold, and pushing to go one step better than last year.

Quick Profile & Fun Facts

• AFL Team: Geelong Cats

• Footy Heroes: Glen Jakovich and Gary Ablett Jr.

• Favorite Footy Memory: Coaching his son’s football team.

• Interesting Fact: Off the field, Rob is an avid angler with an incredible collection of over 500 different fishing lures!

What Makes Kilsyth Special

In Rob’s eyes, Kilsyth stands out because of its welcoming atmosphere for all players and families, its fantastic girls’ footy program, hard-working volunteers, and excellent club facilities.

A Message from Coach Rob to Players & Families

“Our focus this season is about development, hard work, and—most importantly—having fun. Success isn’t just up to the coach; it takes families getting behind the team, supporting the kids, and helping out wherever they can to make it a great and memorable season for everyone.”
